One of the three most outstanding gardens in Japan.
The garden was designed and built in the Kaiyu (stroll-through) style for Daimyos (Japanese feudallords) and you can enjoy seasonal flowers and trees year-round.
The garden is one of the best created during the Edo era.
A combination of garden trails and water ways is designed to link extensive lawns, ponds, man-made hills and buildings so that you can enjoy a variety of scenes as you stroll through the garden.

There are white-walled storehouses and Namako walls throughout this nostalgic town’s riverside streets. Many fancy cafes and a variety of shops also line the streets. The area still preserves the atmosphere that was present at the time when the area was directly governed by the Edo shogunate, when it enjoyed prosperity as a logistical center and the hub of the Bichu region.
You won’t want to miss the "Ohara Museum of Art" as it exhibits collection of world famous masterpieces including those of El Greco, Renoir, Monet, and Matisse.

Naoshima is an island located in the Seto Inland Sea of Japan. It is renowned for its collection of contemporary art galleries and exhibits like the Art House Project, the Benesse House Museum and the Chichu Art Museum.
The island can be quite hilly but pleasant enough along the coasts for biking and walking, except for the road from Miyanoura to Chichu Art Museum. Rental bicycles are available at Miyanoura port (\500/day). It is entirely feasible for all sights on this island to be seen in one day.
